Interestingly, Behar holds an American nationality. To point out, she was born in Williamsburg, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. 

Furthermore, Joy was born Josephine Victoria Occhuito on the 7th of October 1972. Accordingly, she is 78 years of age now.

Behar earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Queens College in New York City. Also, she holds a master of arts degree in English education received from Stony Brook University.
