This Is Not The First Time Laura Was Runner Up On Masterchef

Laura Sharrad who was Laura Cassai at the time was a contestant on the 6th series Masterchef Australia. She was just 18 years old at the and a health science student.

She progressed to the finals week and faced Brent Owens in the finale. They battled for 3 rounds cooking out of a mystery box for the first round.

They cooked an entree in 60 minutes and presented it to the judges, Laura received praise for the way she made grilled scampi with anchovy butter, pickled cabbage, roe, and pear barley, however, the judges said that her cabbage lacked grandeur.

She gained 25 points while Brent was scored 27 for the 1st round. Similarly, in the second round, they had to cook dishes that they would be served to their friends and family.

Laura cooked up a butter-poached lobster and cooked scallops with chestnuts and mushrooms dish that impressed the judges more than Brent’s modern twist added Lancashire hotpot did.

Brent was scored 21 overall and Laura won the sconed round with 24 points. Now Laura had the upper hand with 49 points and Brent had 48 points.

The final round was the hardest as they had to recreate in just 3 hours and assemble it in 20 minutes. Brent was able to recreate it almost exactly which shocked the judges but Laura did not have the chocolate tempered elements and her presentation was lacking.

The total points Laura earned was 80 and Brent narrowly eat her out with 83 points.

In the 2020 final of the series, she suffered an injury as she accidentally grabbed a hot handle but still fought through and made a dish that was loved by fans who thought she was a bit smug towards other fans. She came in second.
