Naomi Scott is an English actress and singer from Hounslow, London. She is of English and Ugandan-Indian origin. Born to Usha Scott and Christopher Scott, she has an older brother named Joshua Scott. She rose to fame for her performances in the television film Lemonade Mouth (2011).
Career
Naomi Scott appeared in the science fiction series Terra Nova (2011). In 2015, Screen International named her as one of their Stars of Tomorrow. She achieved further recognition for starring as Princess Jasmine with Mena Massoud in Disney’s musical live-action fantasy film Aladdin (2019). For the film, she earned a Saturn Award nomination. She has starred in the superhero film Power Rangers (2017) and the action comedy film Charlie’s Angels (2019).
Scott and her family moved to Woodford, London, when she was eight years old, where both of her parents were pastors at the Bridge Church. She grew up listening to R&B music, respectively singers Kim Burrell, Mary Mary, and Kirk Franklin, and gospel and singing in church.
She studied at the Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, England, and left the school halfway through, taking her A-Levels in order to pursue her role in Terra Nova (2011).
British pop singer Kéllé Bryan discovered Scott from the girl group Eternal, who signed her as a client. She went to work with British songwriters and producers at Xenomania. In 2014, the YouTube channel called Reload published two videos featuring her, as part of their Reload Sessions series. Her first major acting role was in the Disney Channel UK series Life Bites in 2008.
