Robinne Lee is an American actress and author. She made her screen debut in the 1997 independent film Hav Plenty, where she played Leigh Darling. She later appeared in several films, including National Security (2003), Deliver Us from Eva (2003), Hitch (2005), Seven Pounds (2008), Fifty Shades Darker (2017), and Fifty Shades Freed (2018).
Career
Robinne Lee was born to Jamaican parents of Chinese, British and African origin. Her father holds the surname Lee. She graduated from Yale University and Columbia Law School. After completing her studies, she began her acting career as part of the ensemble cast of the 1997 film Hav Plenty. Toronto Film Festival showed the film.
She spent the next years working on smaller films. On television, Lee also guest-starred Buffy the Vampire Slayer (2002), and Numb3rs (2005). She also appeared in R&B singer Usher’s music video for his 2004 song Confessions Part II.
Robinne Lee appeared in two films, the action-comedy National Security (2003) and the romantic comedy Deliver Us from Eva, also in 2003. In 2005, she had a role in the box-office hit Hitch as Cressida, starring Will Smith. In 2008, she co-starred again with Smith in the drama film Seven Pounds, playing his character’s fiancee Sarah.
As lead actress, she starred as Viv in the 2008 comedy-drama This Is Not a Test. In 2009, Lee co-starred as Carol alongside Don Cheadle in the comedy film Hotel for Dogs. In 2007, Lee had the recurring role of Nicole on the sitcom Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.
From 2013 to 2014, she played Avery Daniels in the first season of the critically acclaimed drama series, Being Mary Jane. From 2017 to 2018, she starred as Bea Hastings in the Syfy horror drama series, Superstition.
St. Martin’s Press published Lee’s debut novel The Idea Of you on 13 June 2017. She released the audiobook on 3 April 2018 by Tantor Media.
