It uses one of the lines from the film and has gone viral in recent times. Using the film’s dialogue, this TikTok trend has become globally popular in recent weeks. The dark comedy film released in 1989 is a cult classic and teens have taken to the film and given its popularity new life.

Heathers was not a popular film at the time of its release and even failed to make back its budget, but the app has become a new resurgence for it.

Heather Meaning On TikTok Explained

A new trend is making the rounds on Twitter and is basically a lip-sync on one of the lines of the movie, Heathers. It is one of the most enjoyable TikToks where the creators basically play the lines from the film and walk or strut to it.

Three people go on a strut and sync the famous lines from the film. They end on the ”dang dang diggity dang” which was also popularized by the film.

How To Do The Heather Shut Up Challenge From TikTok?

First of all, gather 4 friends and line 3 up so that you are in the middle and facing the camera which will be held by the 4th friend as you are walking and one each by your side.

Then sing these immortal lines from the film::

Middle one: ‘Martha Dumptruck, in the flesh”

2nd friend: Here comes the Cootie Squad We should–

Middle friend: Shut up, Heather

2nd friend:  Sorry, Heather

3rd friend:  Look who’s with her — Oh, my God!

All together: Dang! Dang! Diggety-dang-a-dang! Dang-dang! Diggety-dang-a-dang!

One unique way to do the challenge is to use no friends but do all the 3 roles by yourself and sync them later on.

The lines are sung in the way of a musical that becomes pretty apparent when using the track that goes along with the challenge.

The quarantine or 2020 version of the meme as we like to call it, can be performed digitally with friends sending in their lip-syncs and one compiling them in one place.

Social Media Reception

The trend has gone viral and the original soundtrack for the challenge has more than 5 million videos submitted on it. Each video has also gathered millions of views.

One of the most popular videos is by the world-famous creator Lance Stewart on which he scares his accomplice in the video.

Some of the biggest names in Hollywood like Howie Mandel have also taken part in the trend, adding their own comedic twist to the video.

Likewise, the challenge has remained popular even though it started somewhere in 2019. Most of TikTok’s top creators have taken part in the challenge and they have their own unique videos on the Heathers challenge.

How The Heathers Challenge Came To Be?

This trend is based on the lines said by 3 Heathers in the film and the subsequent musical, Heathers. The film was originally released in 1989 and lost a lot of money at the time of its release but it became a cult classic enjoyed by future generations on TV and on DVD.

In a 2015 poll, it was ranked the 5th best high school movie of all time. Due to the popularity of the movie in younger audiences, they also picked up on the musical which had the lines said by the 3 Heathers. Many people think the lines along with the “dang dang diggity dang” said at the end is from TikTok but it actually from the film.
