Vikram Batra and Dimple Cheema first met in 1995 at Punjab Univerisity. They were studying for their Master’s course in English at the University. Batra always wanted to join the army, and after clearing the CDC exam to join the Indian Military Academy, he left university. Cheema did not complete her Masters’s degree as well.
According to Republic World, Cheema and Batra continued dating when he went to this duty for the nation. Their love grew when he returned home during the breaks.
The couple got engaged after a year of dating, after which Vikram Batra got posted to Kargil. They were supposed to get married after Batra got home from the Kargil War, but fate had other plans, and Vikram Batra was martyred.
After Batra’s death, Dimple Cheema lived as his widow and continues to do so.
