The German Netflix Original Series The Last Word is a sentimental yet humorous dramedy that explores the idea of loss and grief while rediscovering the strength and lust for life.

‘The Last Word’ is a six-part series, an emotional dramedy about family and relationships, and dealing with death and grief while embarking on new beginnings. Much like in real life, people have to deal with the absurdities of life and yet move on and find some happiness, this series has it all.

The casts involved in the series say that this is so beautiful and touching that it can make you cry.

This series, from the Pantaleon films, is created by Aron Lehmann and Pola Beck based on the idea of Thorsten Merten. It is written by Aron Lehmann and Carlos V. Irmscher and executive produced by Daniel Sonnabend and Dan Maag. 

Just like other German series on Netflix such as “Dark”, “How to Sell Drugs Online fast”, etc., this upcoming series “The Last Word” is also anticipated to be among the popular series on Netflix. The Last Word Plot

According to the official synopsis of this six-part series, death is a bleak and terrifying affair but funerals don’t have to be so sad.

The story revolves around a wife named Karla Fazius whose husband suddenly dies after 25 years of their marriage. While her world is breaking apart, she finds a ray of hope and energy, and to the astonishment of her family, she goes on to start becoming a professional eulogist.

On her journey to regain her strength and love for life, she begins to accompany many other mourners. She makes every effort to break rules in the funeral business and tries to explain why funerals don’t have to be so sad. But at the same, she is also struggling to deal with the pain of her own loss thus plunging her life and family into chaotic experiences. 

The series is a mixture of emotions, sometimes it is humorous, sometimes really heartbreaking and emotional, and all the time a bit absurd. No matter what, the series explains that death is not the last phrase, there is more to life, and the memory remains.

Anke Engelke as Karla

Anke Engelke has portrayed the lead role of Karla. This 54-year-old Canadian-German actress is best known for her work in ‘Die Wochenshow’, ‘Fröhliche Weihnachten’, ‘Tödliche Geheimnisse – Das Versprechen’ and ‘Ladykracher’.

She was also the host of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2011. She has also appeared prominently in the Amazon’s period spy series ‘Deutschland 86’. 

Thorsten Merten as Andreas Borowski

Thorsten Merten is playing the role of Andreas Borowski who acts as a funeral undertaker who works with Karla at the church.

Thorsten is a 56 years old German actor. He is best known for his roles in ‘Tatort’, ‘Grill Point’,’In Berlin wächst kein Orangenbaum’, ‘Kohlhaas oder die Verhältnismäßigkeit der Mittel’, ‘Gundermann’, and many more.

Is Season 2 Renewed or Cancelled?

Since even the first season of the series ‘The Last Word’ is not released yet, it is difficult to know if the show is renewed for the second season or not. But since the Pantaleon films give an amazing series the must be good.

Netflix will decide to renew or cancel The Last Word for the next season based on the viewer’s ratings and reviews. As of now, the series is expected to be good and it has a high chance of getting renewed for next season but no official announcement about its next season has been made yet.
