In August 2016, Tony called 911 for help while panicking and high on cocaine.
He ran cross-traffic on West Mockingbird Lane as he suffered from anxiety and schizophrenia. He was off his prescribed medications on that day.
He was dead within an hour of that call, but the death was not due to cocaine or medication. It was a tragic murder.

Tony was handcuffed by a private security guard before the responding officers arrived. He was unarmed, in shorts and barefoot.
The Dallas officer knee pinned Tony in his back and mocked him as he screamed for his life. He laid with face down in the grass for about 14 minutes until he finally became unresponsive.
After a long legal fight between the police and Tony’s family, the Dallas Police department finally released the videocam footage of Tony Timpa’s murder in April 2019.
The video was initially uploaded on Reddit; it later got deleted.

In the video, it can be seen that Timpa was already in cuffs when police officers arrived at the scene. The officers zip-tied his feet and restrained him for about 14 minutes.
The officers are seen asking Tony if he took any drugs. He was struggling with his face down on the ground and stopped moving after some time.
A voice asking Tony if he is still conscious is heard in the background of bodycam footage. The officers are then heard laughing and joking for some time.
One officer is heard saying “I hope I didn’t kill him” before calling the paramedics.
Paramedics confirmed the death of Tony on the scene.
Tony’s Case Update And Family Details
In 2019, Geoff J. Henley, lead attorney for the Timpa family filed an excessive force lawsuit against five Dallas police officers who were involved in the murder of Tony Timpa.
Who was arrested? Five police officers are being trialed on the case.
Earlier in 2016, U.S. District Judge David Godbey had dismissed the case claiming that Timpa died due to excessive medication.
According to Dallas News, Henley has been working on lifting qualified immunity that protects officers from lawsuits when they abuse their authority. Despite being unfit for the job, those five police officers had been doing it for the last 4 years due to the immunity.
Tony’s mother Vicki Timpa had a very sad reaction to the video footage. It was hard for her to hear his son screaming for help.
