Absentia is AXN’s top runner in their drama thriller category. The series’ latest season will be coming out in 2020 after great fan reception got it renewed for the 3rd season. 

While the series has not broken any new ground in the crime drama genre, it has gathered decent audience reception due to its character-driven story. The show follows FBI agents as they try to solve the mysterious disappearance of one of their own.  

When Does Absentia Season 3 Start? Release Date

The series will come out with its 3rd season on July 17, 2020. The series will continue its 45-minute episodes format. 

Absentia Cast

The main cast is almost the same as the first two seasons. The lad character is Stana Katic, her character on the show is Emily Byrne who is an FBI agent who disappears while trying to solve the case of one of Boston’s most horrendous serial killers. 

Katic is perhaps better known for her work on the show Castle. The show’s title is also based on her character being declared dead in absentia. 

Patrick Heusinger plays the role of Special Agent Nick Durand who is the lead character’s husband or rather ex-husband as he remarries after Emily Byrne went missing. 

Some of his other shows are Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Gossip Girl, etc. In addition to this, he also worked in another crime drama, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,. 

His character on the show suffers from guilt for not looking for Emily for a longer time. 

Alice Durand is the new wife of Patrick and is insecure about the recent resurfacing of her husband’s ex. She is played by the beautiful Cara Theobold. 

She is popular as Ivy Stuart in the hit TV series Downton Abbey. She, along with her fellow cast members on the show are recipients of the Screen Actors Guild Award for best ensemble.

Some other actors in the series include Neil Jackson, Angel Bonanni, Christopher Colquhoun, etc.

Ratings And Reception 

The 3rd season is also getting good reviews, the series as a whole has bee rated 7.3/10. Similarly, Rotten Tomatoes is also yet to publish ratings on the 3rd season of the show.

However, the site’s ‘Tomatometer’ has rated the show below average at just 47%, while audiences seem to like the show more rating it around 72%.

TV Series Finale was rated 9.4/10, while Common Sense Media was rated 2/5. CSM’s review berates the plot while praising the lead character and her performance. 

The review comes also says about the waste of a good performance by a generic type of mystery. 

Plot And Premise

The 3rd season will follow the events of the 1st and 2nd where the lead character, FBI Agent Emily Byrne disappears while tracking a serial killer. 

She is declared dead but is found 6 years later in a cabin with no memory of her life. When she returns her husband ahs already married another girl and she is raising their son.  

In a twist, she becomes a suspect in a string of murders and is suspended from her job.  

As season 2 ended with Katic’s character living out the last days of her FBI suspension. She must save the lives of her ex-husband and her son while solving an international case. 

Byrne must step up and find her game face before it is too late. She must also struggle with her past or lack thereof. It is still unclear if she is a criminal or a cop.
